Remus turned; terrified that Marylyn hadnt called back, turning him down yet again. He only looked at her thoughtful face for a moment though, before continuing to hunt down his friend.
If Remus thought he was scared he had no idea how Marylyn was feeling. Her heart fluttering her mind racing, captivated by the boy who didnt care. The boy who asked her out, but had no hopes for a yes. He didnt want to go out with her.
Her first thought, was of course her teen hormones wanted what it couldnt have. But she thought it was more than that. And even if it wasnt. That boy was different from all others, the others who were meaningless.
Marylyn pulled her knees up to her chin thoughtfully. She never thought she would even give something like this thought. But she felt something. Something different.
She flinched. She knew what this different was. The dreaded, evil, heart breaking hope.
Sirius! Remus called, quickening his pace to make Siriuss. Sirius stopped, making Remus have to back track, as it took him a moment to realize Sirius was no longer walking.
What? Sirius asked, turning to his friend. Remus opened his mouth and then closed it again, finding himself with nothing to say. He did this again; hoping words would come out, but alas nothing.
Remus knew, as much as it pained him, Sirius did nothing wrong. Unless
Remus opened his mouth, the words beginning to form, is argument flawless.
You never set a time limit, Sirius countered, before Remus had so much as made a sound. Remus closed him mouth, dejectedly. It pained him to think Sirius had won
..well had at least not instantly lost. And that Remus couldnt back out of the date itself, Sirius already cornering that matter.
Remus mentally hit himself. It wasnt his fault though. Who knew Miss No-Fun Kill-Joy would ever accept or even consider it?
Marylyns feet felt like lead as they carried her up the stairs toward the library. She knew she was going to regret this. She was such a horrible person. She only hoped Sirius was right and that Remus hadnt got her hopes up.
She opened the door to the library. Hmmm funny, it seemed that the door of the library was also made of lead. She took a deep breath. Remus was sitting all the way across the library. He looked so peaceful, calm. Marylyn had to not think about it.
Really what had Sirius expected her to say? Why had he even asked? And why hadnt she just answered him on the spot, like she had every one else? She flinched. She hoped Remus hadnt gotten his hopes up.
Out of the corner of her eye she saw Sirius. He saw her solemn face, and approached her, probably prepared to change her mind. If only he could.
Marylyn- He began softly when he reached her. But she held up her hand.
Black, Ive already made up my mind and I dont want to argue with you, She said coldly, This is all your fault anyway, She added maliciously. She watched his face fall with disappointment.
Marylyn took a deep breath, determined to keep walking. If she stopped, she might accidentally forget what she was about to say. Let her better judgment take over.
She was only a foot away now. Half a foot.
Remus, She said softly tapping him on the shoulder. He turned, his golden eyes looking right back into her frosty blue eyes. His eyes made her want to change her mind more than anything. How terrible it would be to see them filled with disappointment. Um, She began, everything in her head screaming for her to stop, I was wondering if you would accompany me to Hogsmead this weekend, She lowered her head in shame. She had no idea if he even wanted to go. No wait scratch that. She knew he didnt want to go. Sirius had made him ask her.
Why in the world did I say that? She thought over and over again in her head. It was funny that she managed to properly get out the words, although she had been practicing for hours, this being such a new concept to her.
